With a roster comprised entirely of North Carolinians, the Tar Heels rolled to four wins in the 1924 SoCon Tournament, which was played in Atlanta’s Memorial Coliseum … After three-straight wins by double figures, including a 41-20 win in the opening round over Kentucky, North Carolina posted a 26-18 victory over Alabama to win the title … The Helms Athletic Foundation retroactively named the Tar Heels national champions in 1943, and named stars Jack Cobb, Cartwright Carmichael to its All-America team for that season … Carmichael, Cobb, and Monk McDonald earned spots on the All-SoCon Tournament team … The core of the same team won the SoCOn tournament in 1922 and went undefeated during the 1922-23 regular season.
