- Won the SoCon long-jump championship in 1928 and 1929 and indoors in 1930
- Also won the 100-yard and 220-yard sprints for three consecutive years.

National Honors/Awards


- Two-time NCAA long-jump champion
- One of just four male SoCon track and field performers to become an NCAA champion and the only two-time winner of the group
- In 1928, he set a world record in the long jump while competing at the Olympic Trials; later that year, he set an Olympic record in Amsterdam

Following his coaching career, Hamm served as an executive for Coca-Cola
